San Angel Clothing was born in 2004 out of our love of textiles . It was a natural transition to make a statement with artistic guayaberas as much as our gallery makes a statement with the art work that we display at San Angel Folk Art. Hank finds special fabrics that would not normally be found pleated and pocketed in the traditional guayabera. When you wear a San Angel Clothing Guayabera you will be the best dressed turkey carver at your family holiday gatherings, be the LUST magnet at EVERY wedding , be the king of FIESTA in these unique limited edition guayabera. Made from vintage fabrics and limited edition vintage reproductions from London, Japan, the US and Mexico, these handsome shirts are a small batch effort. With rare exception, a single shirt has been made in five sizes each for each pattern, from small to XX-Large. While most guayaberas are short-sleeved to accommodate San Antonio’s long summer, some long-sleeve options are included.

San Angel’s newest line is its smartest yet, featuring amazing paisleys, fantastic florals, and pastoral scenes from summer to spring. On the rack, the fashion-minded man can also find a whole line of 1960s “Mod” motifs including billiards, space-age patterns, and wiener chefs cooking hotdogs on the grill. In other words, San Angel has a shirt for the life of the party to the straight up handsome guest.

Commonly worn in San Antonio for formal and informal occasions alike, the guayabera’s distinctive features include four front pockets, stripes of vertical pleating on the front and back, decorative yokes and buttons, and cuffed pockets.

The shirt’s history traces back to 18th Century Cuba, where it was first created to accommodate field workers’ need for pockets. It was later adapted for military uniforms. By the 19th Century the style had traveled to the Yucatan Peninsula, where competing tailors added signature flourishes, including embroidery and increased pleat-counts. By the mid-1970s, the guayabera’s identity as a formal shirt was popularized Mexican President Luis Echevarría, who wore it for state and informal occasions alike. Commonly rendered in solid colors and made of 100% cotton or linen, San Angel’s innovation on the guayabera has been its use of daring and vivid print fabrics. In our many years of producing the shirt, San Angel has also perfected an easy fitting cut that offers a slimming look.
